Nutrition Trivia: Do You Know Which Option is Healthiest?

We went “Price is Right” style on this one. Here’s the game: we give you two food options, and you have to tell us which is healthier. Make sure to read the question carefully, because we threw a few nutritional wildcards in there. Give it a shot, check your answers below, and see if you’re a nutritional wiz!

Round 6) Bacon vs. Pork Sausage: Which is typically healthier?

Round 7) Walnuts vs. Almonds: Which is typically healthier?

Answers)

1) Hamburger: Compared to a hot dog, burgers are lower in saturated fat. They also contain a healthy dose of B vitamins, and is a source of protein. Don’t eat hamburgers all the time, but if given the choice, the burger is a better option.

2) Blueberries: Both fruits are loaded with antioxidants, vitamins, and phytonutrients (that’s a big fancy nutrition word, feel free to dazzle your friends with it). But if you’re trying to pack in the highest content of “good stuff,” blueberries win this battle.

3) Corn Tortillas: Most flour tortillas have three times the calories of a corn tortilla. So if you have the choice, go corn.

4) Broccoli: Believe it or not, oranges rank pretty low on the “foods with Vitamin C” list. Broccoli, papayas, kiwis, dark leafy greens, guavas, and bell peppers all pack more of Vitamin C punch than oranges.

5) Turkey Breast: If you lose the skin, both are very good options. Chicken and Turkey have lots of great protein, but turkey has less fat than chicken. Advantage turkey.

6) Bacon: Ok, both are pretty bad options if you’re trying to eat healthfully, and there’s an argument for both sides. Here’s our reasoning for choosing bacon: While sausage has more protein, it also has more fat and calories. In addition, bacon packs a lot of flavor in each strip, so in most cases, you don’t need to eat as much to satisfy your carnivorous pork craving.

7) Walnuts: Walnuts are widely considered to be the healthiest nut on the planet. Both almonds and walnuts are loaded with healthy proteins, but walnuts are also rich in antioxidants and healthy omega 3 fatty acids. This combination protects the heart, promotes cognitive function, and supports a variety of essential bodily functions.

    • Hi Steve,
We have a registered dietician on staff, and while a few of these can vary depending on the foods purchased (the hotdog vs. hamburger question for example), she weighed in as our qualified source.
