It’s Time for Healthy Tailgating!

BBQ Asparagus“Healthy tailgate? Isn’t that an oxymoron”? That’s what people asked us when we announced our plans to host a Healthier Tailgate at tonight’s OSU vs. USC football game at Reser Stadium in Corvallis, OR.

One of the best parts of watching the big game is enjoying delicious food. But many of the traditional parking lot prepared, game-day favorites are loaded with calories. The average fan takes in an estimated 1,200 calories in one sitting. For the average adult, that’s more than half of what’s suggested for a full day!

We’re hoping to score some points with fans at our healthy tailgate. We’re going to share a few healthy recipes that were selected as winners of the Moore Family Center’s recent GridIron Chef Contest.  From 3:30 – 6:00 p.m., PacificSource Healthy Life in conjunction with the Moore Family Center for Whole Grain Foods, Nutrition and Preventive Health, OSU Catering, University Housing and Dining Services, the College of Public Health and Human Sciences and OSU Healthy Campus Initiatives, will be preparing and offering free samples of delicious, but healthy dishes to Beaver fans on their way into the game.

But, if you can’t make it to our Healthy Tailgate party tonight, check out these simple (and healthy) game day recipes. Whether you’re in the stadium parking lot or on your couch in front of the TV, they’ll be a hit!
