Turning the Civil War Rivalry into Healthy Pledges

MillionIdeas_thank youThanks to all those who pledged to ‘Go Healthy’ this Civil War!  From Oct. 28 through Nov. 25, Ducks, Beavers, and Oregonians statewide united in a friendly competition to take an active role in healthy living. By pledging to take part in the PacificSource Healthy Life Civil War Challenge, thousands of participants took steps toward making themselves and their community healthier, while raising funds for four Oregon non-profits in the process.

But… with all ‘friendly’ rivalries, there had to be a winner!

Congratulations to University of Oregon Duck fans for out pledging Oregon State University Beaver fans in this year’s PacificSource Healthy Life Civil War Challenge.

“Whether they root for the Ducks, the Beavers, or another team altogether, the Healthy Life Civil War Challenge is a way to unite all Oregonians around the common goal of living healthier by incorporating small but meaningful changes into their daily routines,” said Alexa Shook, director of Healthy Life for PacificSource. “And, while the challenge itself only lasts for a month, the HealthyLifeChallenge.org site is a year-round resource for ideas on how we can all incorporate healthier living into our everyday lives.”For every online pledge received, PacificSource Healthy Life donated one dollar to one of four Oregon non-profits that provide prevention and wellness programs. This year’s beneficiaries of the Healthy Life Civil War Challenge are the Boys and Girls Club of Corvallis, Morrison Child and Family Services in Portland, Eugene Family YMCA, and Healthy Beginnings, which serves Central Oregon.
